CONFERENCE THEMES
The topics of this conference build on the findings of the previous AFLiCo conferences, taking into consideration recent developments in the discipline and putting emphasis on multidisciplinary issues. Participants are welcome to submit proposals linking discourse and cognition from various perspectives, with a view to building bridges between Cognitive Linguistics and broader social and cultural contexts.
The following areas are especially relevant to the theme of the conference:
- the relationship between Cognitive Linguistics and discourse studies ; - discourse and multimodality ; - constructionist approaches to discourse studies ; - cognitive approaches to discourse grammar ; - emergent contructions in discourse ; - discourse in L1 and L2 acquisition ; - discourse, interaction and intersubjectivity ; - language, culture and ideology: cognitive and discursive models ; - contrastive analysis of discourse as in translation ; - interdisciplinary applications of Cognitive Linguistics (education, engineering, translation studies, …).
The conference will not be limited to the main foci described above. The organisers also encourage researchers to submit proposals within other areas of cognitive linguistics, such as:
- categorization, prototypes and polysemy ; - metaphor and metonymy ; - mental spaces and conceptual blending ; - domain and frame semantics ; - image schemas and force dynamics ; - embodiment and situated cognition ; - Construction Grammar(s) ; - Cognitive Grammar(s) ; - grammaticalization ; - empirical methods in cognitive linguistics ; - …
Young researchers are encouraged to submit an abstract.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Abstracts for oral presentaions or posters will undergo a double blind review. They should be fully anonymous and should not exceed 500 words (excluding references). Submission is online via the conference website (https://aflico7.sciencesconf.org/user/submit).
Format for abstracts
500 words max., Times, single-spaced, title centred in bold at the top of the page, total number of words stated clearly on the abstract page, anonymous. Clear statement of the research question(s), the significance and originality for the field of the proposal, methods, analysis, discussion. Examples, tables, figures, and references should be placed on the second page of the same document. Word or pdf files to be uploaded on the platform.
Abstracts must be submitted in English or French. The languages of the conference are English, French, FSL (please notify organizers in advance).
